The B2B services landscape is undergoing a dramatic transformation as wireline and wireless Telco infrastructures converge. To enhance monetization, Telcos are increasingly adopting Fixed-Mobile Convergence at higher layers or Wireline/Wireless convergence to streamline service provisioning, billing, charging, orchestration, monitoring, and analysis.
While Network Slicing was initially considered the ideal technology for unifying these infrastructures, its inherent complexity and limitations in dynamic automation and service assurance have hindered its widespread adoption. SD-WAN, on the other hand, emerges as a compelling overlay networking alternative, offering several advantages:

- Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation: SD-WAN enables flexible bandwidth allocation based on service and application profiles, ensuring optimal performance for critical workloads.
- Adaptive Solutions: SD-WAN’s ability to adapt to changing network conditions and traffic patterns ensures consistent and reliable service delivery.
- Multi-Cloud Integration: SD-WAN simplifies management and connectivity across multiple cloud environments, providing businesses with greater flexibility and scalability.
- Embedded Security: SD-WAN incorporates advanced security features, protecting sensitive data and applications from threats.
SD-WAN’s compatibility with various underlay network technologies and its adaptability to evolving requirements make it a powerful tool to address network changing conditions and customer’s agile requirements.
Our CTO, Ishkhan Martirosyan, provide further insights into the benefits and applications of SD-WAN in the context of Telco cloud and hyperscaler services. “Without the industry hype, SD-WAN is rooted in Software-Defined Networking (SDN). SD-WAN architecture separates management, control, and forwarding tasks from the physical infrastructure, creating a software-defined framework. With the shift from hardware-centric to software-defined networking, SD-WAN becomes an intelligent fabric that prioritizes services and solutions over traditional switching, routing, and VPN techniques.
SD-WAN can now use common DevOps tools and cutting-edge AI frameworks to create highly responsive and agile services in today’s fast-paced digital landscape. For example, SD-WAN enables adaptive networks to optimise application performance, adapt to changing network conditions, and maintain high availability. Additionally, SD-WAN leverages Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) to offer customized network services for flexible and scalable management.
In the context of Telco clouds and hyperscalers, SD-WAN plays a crucial role. This technology helps Telcos incorporate cloud-native architectures for scalable, flexible, and cost-effective networking solutions. SD-WAN integrates with hyperscalers to optimise service delivery across various infrastructures, regardless of network complexity. The integration of SD-WAN with Telco clouds and hyperscalers is essential for future-proofing networks in an era where agility, intelligence, and adaptability are key to success. “
Monetization and Service Bundling
The convergence of Telco and hyperscaler infrastructures presents exciting opportunities for monetization and service bundling. By combining their respective strengths, Telcos and hyperscalers can offer comprehensive bundled solutions and actively monetize what address the diverse needs of B2B customers and can even explore even explore and shift to B2B2X service scenarios for passive monetization.
- Telco-Hyperscaler Bundling: Telcos can bundle their network services with hyperscaler-based cloud platforms, providing customers with a seamless and integrated experience. This can lead to increased revenue streams for both parties.
- Hyperscaler-Telco Bundling: Hyperscalers can bundle their cloud services with Telco network capabilities, offering customers enhanced connectivity and performance. This can help Telcos expand their market reach and differentiate their offerings.
Our CEO Alex Lacis believes that “In today’s dynamic digital landscape, overlay networks are the key to helping telcos and hyperscalers maximize their investments. By providing a scalable, agile, and secure infrastructure, overlay networks can drive innovation, improve customer experience, and boost revenue.”

To facilitate these partnerships and enable seamless integration, both Telcos and hyperscalers must focus on:
- Network API Exposure: Exposing network APIs allows for programmatic control and automation, enabling the development of innovative applications and services.
- NaaS Offerings: Offering Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) solutions can provide customers with flexible and scalable network capabilities on-demand.
By embracing SD-WAN and exploring strategic partnerships, Telcos and hyperscalers can drive innovation, enhance customer satisfaction, and unlock new revenue opportunities in the evolving B2B services market.
This blog is the inaugural piece of a series of additional papers that will emphasize a variety of potential use cases and solutions in which SD-WAN can be employed to address intriguing vertical solutions and use cases for both telcos and B2B enterprises. These solutions are primarily applicable in developed and emerging countries.
